Stars shut out Briar Cliff 7-0

OCU pitchers combine to allow no runs on three hits

Chad Carman went 2-for-5 with a bunt single agianst Briar Cliff Sunday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University shut out Briar Cliff (Iowa) 7-0 Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The win bumps the Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA baseball, to 23-5 overall on the season.
Leadoff hitter Kale Gaden parked the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first inning over the right-field fence to put OCU on top 1-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dane Phillips hit a solo blast to right field to double the Stars' lead 2-0.
Gaden drove in another run with an RBI double down the right-field line to make the score 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth.
Jonathan Sigado singled up the middle to plate Adam Clark and make the score 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the eighth, Gaden singled up the middle to score Andrew Dennis from second and Beltran followed with a two-RBI double to stretch the OCU lead to 7-0.
Briar Cliff threatened in the top of the ninth, but Patrick Goelz struck out two in the inning to give OCU the 7-0 victory.
Davis Henderson tossed five scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 4-0 on the season. The junior right-hander allowed two hits and recorded two strike outs.
Will Patrigo and Goelz each pitched two innings in relief with two strikeouts.
Gaden finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish. Beltran went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
The Stars will return to action against Hastings (Neb.) at 7 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
