OCU scores 20 total runs to take out Grand View, Hastings

Stars defeat Grand View11-1 and Hastings 9-3 to go to 4-0 on the year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1 Oklahoma City University slugged its way to an 11-1 win over Grand View (Iowa), and a 9-3 win over Hastings (Neb.) Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars crushed three homeruns and scored 20 runs in the two games to move to 4-0 on the young season.
The Stars took an early 2-0 lead over Grandview in game one after an RBI double from Dane Phillips and an RBI single from Miguel Beltran in the bottom of the first.
OCU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second on a pair of RBI singles from Chris Muñoz and Phillip to push the score to 4-0.
The Stars added three runs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings to stake starting pitcher Cody Crabaugh to a 10-0 lead through five innings.
The teams traded runs in the sixth inning, but reliever Patrick Goelz retired the first three hitter he faced in the top of the seventh to give OCU the 11-1 win.
Crabaugh threw six innings, gave up one run on six hits and struck out three Grand View batter to pick up his first win of the season.
Muñoz led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs. Kale Gaden and Phillips drove in two runs apiece.
OCU led Hastings 1-0 in the game two when Muñoz and Phillips hit back-to-back solo homeruns in the bottom of the third to push the score to 3-0.
Hastings answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to chase starting pitcher Allen Townsend from the game and tie the score at 3-3.
The Stars retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Beltran blasted a solo homer to right field to make the score 4-3.
OCU poured on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out reach and make the score 9-3.
Goelz made short work of the Hastings hitters in the top of the seventh to give OCU its second win of the day.
Davis Henderson picked up the win for OCU, throwing three shutout innings and striking out five batters.
Cody Ferrell and Muñoz did most of the damage at the dish combing for six RBIs and three runs. Both players finished 2-for-4 from the plate.
OCU will return to action against Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond, Okla.
