Stars use the long ball to pick up wins over Hastings, Grand View

OCU defeats Hastings 2-1, drops Grand View 7-4

Miguel Beltran drove in two runs on three hits against Grand View Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University came from behind to take down Hastings (Neb.), 2-1, and Grand View (Iowa), 7-4, Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium to pick up wins No. 1 and No. 2 of the season.
The Stars got clutch home runs from Miguel Beltran, Kale Gaden and Rich Hawkins to finish the day with two wins.
In the first game of the day, Hastings got back-to-back extra-base hits to take a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Stars were held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Hawkins led off with a solo homer to tie the score at 1-1. Chris Muñoz gave OCU the lead on a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Brayden Brumley and make the score 2-1.
Hawkins retired three straight batters in the top of the seventh to close out the game for OCU. Hawkins threw seven innings, struck out seven, allowed one run and drove in a run en route to his first win of the season.
In game No. 2, OCU starter Blake Schwartz surrendered a solo homerun on the first pitch of the game but quickly struck out two Grand View batters and induced a ground ball to end the top of the first.
The Stars drew even in the bottom of the first with a Chad Carman RBI double to make the score 1-1.
Schwartz allowed two more runs in the top of the second and Grand View led 3-1.
Beltran evened the score in the bottom of the fifth with a solo blast to right field to make the score 3-3.
With OCU trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh Beltran singled to right to score Muñoz from third and tie the score at 4-4. Gaden delivered the knockout blow later in the inning with a 3-run walk-off homerun to give OCU the 7-4 win.
Schwartz gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings, and reliever Ryan Gibson picked up the win in one inning of work.
The Stars will take the field Sunday against Grandview at 10 a.m. and Hastings at 3 p.m. at Jim Wade Stadium.
