OCU drops Oklahoma Wesleyan 12-4

Stars score double-digit runs for the fourth time this season

Cody Ferrell went 2-for-5 with an RBI against Oklahoma Wesleyan Tuesday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top- ranked Oklahoma City slugged out a 12-4 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, No. 1 in the NAIA, outhit Oklahoma Wesleyan 14-8 to improve to 12-4 on the young season.
After a three up-three down top of the first inning, Chad Carman put OCU on the scoreboard first with a two-out single through the right side of the infield to drive in a run. Two batters later Brian Fisher singled to right-center field to plate two more runs and make the score 3-0.
After walking the bases loaded in the top of the second, starting pitcher Allen Townsend got Dustin Phelps to hit into an inning-ending double play to keep the score 3-0.
Dane Phillips led off the bottom of the third with a single to right field and was driven in by Carman who tripled down the right-field line to make the score 4-2. Miguel Beltran, Cody Ferrell and Jonathan Sigado each drove in runs later in the inning to give OCU a 7-2 advantage.
OCU pushed one more run across in the bottom of third when Oklahoma Wesleyan catcher Nick White's throw to catch Ferrell stealing second went wide and allowed Sigado to score from third to give the Stars an 8-2 lead.
Fisher led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to left field to extend the OCU lead to 9-3.
Beltran singled up the middle to drive in two runs in the bottom the eighth. Adam Clark followed with double off the left-field fence to score Beltran and push the Stars' lead to 12-4.
Patrick Goelz tossed a scoreless three up-three down top of the ninth to give OCU the 12-4 victory.
Townsend picked up the win to move to 1-1 on the year. The senior lefty allowed three runs on six hits in five innings of work and struck out two batters.
Cody Crabaugh, Will Patrigo and Golez pitched the finally four innings and combined to allow one run on two hits.
Beltran finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Fisher went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the way at the dish.
The Stars will head to Alva, Okla., to take on Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. Thursday.
