Stars down USAO 3-0

The OCU defense posted its ninth shutout of the season to move to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blanked Science and Arts of Oklahoma 3-0 Friday at Stars Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 8 in NAIA women's soccer, got a pair of goals from junior Meghan McMahon, of Oklahoma City, to move to 11-1 on the season and 3-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
USAO goalkeeper Brooke Worcester kept the Stars off the scoreboard early by making five first-half saves.
In the final minute of the first half, sophomore Sandra Hallin, of Orebro, Sweden, found McMahon in the box who scored her 14th goal of the season to give OCU a 1-0 lead at halftime.
McMahon scored her second goal of the game in 51st minute when she beat two USAO defenders and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Stars a 2-0 advantage.
Hallin put the match out of reach in the 70th minute when she took a deep shot and beat Worcester to give OCU the 3-0 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold, of Oklahoma City, got the start between the posts for OCU. Bechtold and the Stars' defense pitched their ninth shutout of the season.
The Stars outshot USAO 21-4 and put nine shots on goal. USAO did not record a shot on goal.
The Stars will return to action against former SAC rival Southern Nazarene at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
