CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State took game one of its Sooner Athletic Conference baseball series against Oklahoma City University 6-3 on Thursday at the Hillcat Complex.
The Stars posted 12 hits to Rogers State's six, but left eight men on base. OCU, ranked second in NAIA baseball, dropped to 39-9, 24-4 in the SAC, while 18th-ranked Rogers State moved to 42-10, 20-8.
Rogers State struck for three first-inning runs. Colton West had an RBI single, and Lance Rymel pounded a two-run double.
Matt Presley drove in OCU's first run in the top of the fourth inning with a double to left field. Brandt Barnes answered for Rogers State with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
Julien Pollard cut Rogers State's lead to 6-2 with an infield single with the bases loaded in the fifth. OCU left the bases full to end the inning. Miguel Beltran brought in another OCU run with a double to left in the eighth.
Grant Cosby (7-1) struck out nine and threw the entire nine innings to get the win. Corey Theriot suffered his first loss this year after winning his first 10 decisions as a Star.
Pollard, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run, while Kirk Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 2-for-5 with a run scored for OCU.
OCU faces Rogers State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
