OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University captured the Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season baseball championship with a 10-1 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at Dobson Field.

The Stars, ranked third in the NAIA, moved to 38-8, 24-3 in the SAC. OCU clinched its ninth SAC title with one series remaining in its regular-season schedule.

OCU had previously won SAC crowns in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
“This championship rewards the hard work and time we've put in,” OCU coach Denney Crabaugh said. “But we realize there's lots of hard work left to do.”

In the fourth inning Saturday, OCU took a 2-0 lead using two suicide squeeze bunts. Dearth Parker laid down a bunt to bring Miguel Beltran home from third base. Scott Dalrymple bunted to allow Matt Presley to score from third next.

The Stars built a 6-0 fifth-inning lead. Ruben Sosa scored on an error, and Presley drew a bases-loaded walk. Parker added an RBI groundout, then Beltran reached home on another Oklahoma Christian misplay.

Julien Pollard powered an 0-1 pitch over the right-field wall for a three-run home run in the sixth. Beltran added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Terrance Jackson picked up his second win of the year. Jackson, a senior left-hander from Greenville, Ala., allowed one run on one hit and seven walks in seven innings while striking out six. Steve Styck pitched the final two innings while permitting no hits and fanning four.

Pollard, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., drove in three runs, while Mark Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Mass., was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and Presley, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

OCU faces Bacone at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
