CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University rallied with five unanswered runs in an 8-4 victory over USAO on Thursday at Bill Smith Ballpark.
The Stars' Brian Fisher, a junior from Spring, Texas, drove in four runs and went 3-for-3. OCU, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 21-2, 11-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Stars began the year 0-2.
Fisher gave OCU a 5-4 edge with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Julien Pollard had a sacrifice fly in the seventh, then Ruben Sosa added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Fisher tacked on an RBI double in the ninth.
Garan Qualls put USAO up 4-3 with a two-run single in the third. USAO scored three runs in the third.
Kirk Walker brought in OCU's first run with a groundout in the first. Fisher nailed a run-scoring base hit in the second, while Pollard put the Stars up 3-1 with an RBI base hit in the top of the third.
Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Mark Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Pollard, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., was 1-for-3, scored a run and drove in two runs.
Corey Theriot, a senior right-hander from Iowa, La., moved to 6-0 on the year. Theriot worked eight innings and struck out four. Steve Styck finished the game with a scoreless ninth despite USAO getting two runners on.
The Stars complete their three-game series against USAO with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
