OCU edges Southwestern 5-3

Stars notch 20th consecutive win

Scott Dalrymple socked an RBI double in the fourth inning Tuesday.
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Oklahoma City University ran its winning streak to 20 games in a 5-3 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday at SWOSU Baseball Park.
The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 20-2 on the year. OCU scored using a balk and an error late in the game.
Kirk Walker got on base via a fielder's choice grounder in the eighth inning, then advanced to second base on an error. Walker took third on a groundout, then reached home plate on a balk to put the Stars up 4-1. Southwestern responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the ninth, Scott Dalrymple led off for OCU with a walk. Brian Fisher pinch ran for Dalrymple, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Matt Presley singled to put Fisher at third. OCU scored when Presley stole second, and the catcher committed an error to allow Fisher to reach home safely.
Steve Styck entered and picked off a runner to end a threat in the eighth. Styck worked a scoreless ninth by getting two groundouts before allowing a hit. Styck, a senior from Kankakee, Ill., sewed up his second save of the year by striking out Christian Wise to end the game.
Clint Maune, a senior from Yukon, Okla., picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Maune worked six innings and allowed an unearned run on five hits and a walk. Maune did not register a strikeout, but retired Southwestern batters 10 times on flyouts and seven times on groundouts.
OCU scored its first run after Mark Purser doubled, then got to third on Ruben Sosa's single. Walker knocked a fly ball to right to bring home Purser. The Stars tied the game 1-1 in the third.
The Stars took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Dalrymple drove in a run on a double, then scored on Presley's sacrifice fly.
Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Mass., went 2-for-4, and Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Presley, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., went 1-for-2 with a run driven in, and Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
OCU faces USAO at 2 p.m. Thursday in Chickasha, Okla.
