OCU breaks tie in the ninth to beat MidAmerica Nazarene 2-1

Stars get eight innings and 10 strikeouts from pitcher Allen Townsend

Cody Crabaugh picked up the win after an eight-pitch ninth inning on Friday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University used a ninth inning two-out run to beat MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 2-1 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The low-scoring affair was highlighted by OCU pitcher Allen Townsend's eight-inning outing. Townsend, a junior from San Diego, struck out 10 batters and gave up one run in a 112-pitch performance.
Cody Crabaugh, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., closed the game with one inning of work that took just eight pitches as he notched his first win of the season.
The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 3-2 on the season.
Mark Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., drove in the game-winning run with a left field single. The ninth inning started with a fly out by Miguel Beltran. Catcher Chad Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., legged out a double to right center before Dearth Parker came in to pinch run. After another fly out, Purser stepped up the plate and blazed a single down the left field line to knock Parker home from second base and secure the win.
The Stars got on the board in the third inning after a double by Kirk Walker advanced Ruben Sosa in for the score.
MidAmerica Nazarene evened the game when Kyle Seagraves belted a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ben Alison got the RBI as Seagraves crossed the plate for the Pioneers to tie the ballgame.
The Stars got five hits in the game with Carman going 2-for-3 for OCU. Walker pounded out his third double of the year. Base hits by Purser and Brian Fisher accounted for the remainder of the OCU offensive production in the win.
OCU faces MidAmerica Nazarene in a double-header Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jim Wade Stadium.
