OCU women streak to third straight win

Stars defeat NCAA Division II opponent East Central 3-1

Sheridan Horner grabbed her fourth assist of the season in Sunday's 3-1 win.

ADA, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three with a 3-1 victory over East Central on Sunday at Lady Tiger Field. The win came after back-to-back outings for the Stars, who downed Texas Wesleyan on Saturday night.

The Stars (5-2) held a 21-6 shot advantage in the match. Along with putting OCU on the board first, Malin Andersson amassed 10 shots, six of which were on goal.

OCU's defense held East Central to no first-half shots, while scoring the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute. Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, was the recipient of a pass from Sheridan Horner, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla. Horner's pass sliced the defense and allowed Andersson the opportunity to score, giving the Stars the early advantage.

In the second half, Blerta Rashica, a freshman from Orebro, Sweden, netted the eventual game-winning goal after beating the keeper one-on-one in the 52nd minute. Alex Miley, a senior from Edmond, Okla., was credited with the assist on the score.

East Central cut into the OCU lead in the 57th minute, but that would prove to be its only score of the match. The Stars' final score came on an East Central own goal with two minutes remaining in the contest.

OCU opens up play in the Sooner Athletic Conference on Tuesday. The Stars will travel to Chickasha, Okla. to take on USAO at 1 p.m.
