LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian (Texas) took over the lead in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball standings with an 11-5 win over Oklahoma City University on Saturday at Hays Field.
The third-ranked Stars fell to 36-11, 19-5 in the SAC. Seventh-ranked Lubbock Christian improved to 35-10, 19-4 to hold a half-game edge in the SAC standings.
OCU built a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Chad Carman nailed a two-run triple in the first, and Steve Vitale knocked in two more runs on a third-inning base hit to center field.
Lubbock Christian answered in the bottom of the fifth with nine runs. Marc Gomez had a grand slam to cap Lubbock Christian's scoring in the inning.
Vitale pounded a home run to right field to lead off the sixth.
Carman was 2-for-4 with two runs driven in, and Vitale went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kirk Walker went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Terrance Jackson took the loss for OCU, going to 5-2 this year.
The Stars face Bacone at 6 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
