OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a doubleheader from Rogers State 7-2, 9-4 on Saturday at the Hillcat Complex.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, improved to 26-6, 11-1 with their ninth consecutive win. In the first game, Steve Vitale went 4-for-4 with six RBIs.
Vitale, a senior from East Meadow, N.Y., keyed OCU's three-run fifth inning. Vitale nailed a two-run triple to right field, then Garrett Regan scored Vitale on a sacrifice fly to put the Stars up 5-1.
Vitale pounded a solo home run over the left-field wall in the first. Vitale drove in OCU's second run on a double to left in the third.
In the seventh, Vitale cranked a two-run blast to right to finish off OCU's scoring.
Kirk Walker went 2-for-4 and scored three times, while Nathan Bryan and Dearth Parker each went 1-for-3. Terrance Jackson had a double and scored a run.
Mike Richard worked his third complete game of the year to improve to 6-1. Richard, a junior left-hander from Walla Walla, Wash., went the full seven innings and allowed one earned run on nine hits and two walks. Richard logged 115 pitches and struck out nine.
In the second game, Chad Carman was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Carman drove in OCU's first run during a four-run Stars first inning.
Bryan smacked a triple to right with the bases loaded to give the Stars a 4-0 advantage.
Carman, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., led off the fourth with a solo shot over the left-field fence.
In the seventh, Matt Presley drew a bases-loaded walk, then Regan had a sac fly. Carman swatted a two-run double.
Jackson, a junior from Greenville, Ala., picked up the win to move to 3-1. Jackson had four strikeouts in four innings.
Travis Harold's double cut OCU's lead to 5-4 in the fourth. Then Brad Riddle came on in the bottom of the fifth and allowed one hit in three shutout innings. Riddle, a senior from Bethany, Okla., struck out three to earn his second save this year.
OCU meets Bacone at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Muskogee, Okla.
