OKLAHOMA CITY – Mark Purser belted a grand slam as Oklahoma City University cruised by USAO 12-2 in seven innings on Thursday evening at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, recorded 14 hits in the game, including three home runs, to improve to 17-5, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Purser, a junior from Spokane, Wash., led OCU with three hits and five RBIs in the game.
OCU scored five runs off USAO starter Newt Compton in the third inning to pull away. Garrett Regan led off with a double to left-field, followed by a double from Chad Carman to place runners at second and third with no outs. Scott Dalrymple was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Terrance Jackson walked to score a run and make the score 4-2 in favor of the Stars. Purser hit a 3-2 pitch over the left-field wall for his first home run of the season to give OCU an 8-2 advantage.
Carman, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., drilled a solo homer to left-field in the fourth innings, and Jackson, a junior from Greenville, Ala., added a solo shot in the sixth inning for the Stars. Carmon finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Jackson went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
Dustin Williams, a senior from Norman, Okla., was solid on the mound for OCU to move to 4-1 on the season. Williams gave up two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters in seven innings of work.
OCU will travel to Chickasha, Okla. on Saturday for a doubleheader with USAO beginning at 1 p.m.
