OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted a 20-4 wipeout of Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Brian Fisher, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, and Dearth Parker, a junior from Roff, Okla., each pounded three-run home runs for OCU. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, upped their record to 15-2.
OCU banged out 17 hits and took advantage of 17 walks and two errors. Mike Richard, a junior left-hander from Walla Walla, Wash., benefited to pick up the win. Richard (3-1) struck out two and allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. Richard logged 100 pitches.
John Ragsdale, Phillip Stewart and Harold Scheidel finished up pitching for the Stars.
Parker went 2-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs, while Fisher was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Steve Vitale, a senior from East Meadow, N.Y., was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs driven in, and Kirk Walker, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Scott Dalrymple was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Austin Messerli had a two-run base hit for OCU.
The Stars plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Garrett Regan brought in OCU's first run with a double to left, then Vitale had an RBI single. Walker drove in two on a base hit to left, then Dalrymple got hit by pitch with the bases full.
In the third, Terrance Jackson led off with a base hit to center. Dalrymple walked to set the table for Fisher's fourth homer of the year. Fisher launched a 1-0 offering off the scoreboard in left to put OCU ahead 9-2.
Parker made it 15-2 in the sixth. Dalrymple had a base hit, then Fisher walked before Parker cranked a 2-1 pitch over the left-field wall.
Matt Presley nailed a run-scoring triple to left-center in the fifth, and David Grellner ripped a double off the left-field wall in the seventh for the Stars.
OCU meets Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium. The twin bill begins the Stars' four-game set against 19th-ranked Cumberland.
