OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University came from behind for its first Sooner Athletic Conference victory of the year 8-6 over Mid-America Christian on Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Matt Presley, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., crushed an 0-2 curveball over the left-field wall in the sixth inning for a grand slam to provide the difference for OCU. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, improved to 11-1, 1-0 in the SAC.
OCU overcame a 2-0 first-inning deficit. The Stars plated three runs in the fifth inning as Garrett Regan nailed a two-run double to the right-field wall. Dearth Parker added an RBI single to right.
Mid-America answered with Edgar Lopez's pinch-hit, three-run blast to left in the top of the sixth. Mid-America also scored on James Frederick's sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Garrett Parker, a senior from Duncanville, Texas, picked up the win. Parker (2-0) struck out four in six innings of work. Zac Coplon went two innings, then Brad Riddle worked the ninth. Riddle, a senior from Bethany, Okla., earned his first save of the year.
Dearth Parker, a junior from Roff, Okla., went 2-for-4, getting OCU's first hit of the day in the second. Regan, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was 1-for-3. Steve Vitale and Kirk Walker each scored twice.
The Stars meet Mid-America Christian in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium. Those games were originally scheduled to be played at Mid-America Christian.
