OKLAHOMA CITY – Matt Presley had a pair of home runs as Oklahoma City University took both games of a doubleheader with Briar Cliff (Iowa) 6-0, 6-2 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, pounded out 12 hits combined in the two games, led by Presley with three hits. Presley, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., hit a two-run blast to right-center in the fourth inning of the first game to give OCU 5-0 advantage.
That was all the run support that Mike Richard would need as he tossed a complete-game shutout. Richard, a junior from Walla Walla, Wash., moved to 2-1 on the season, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters in seven innings of work.
In game two, OCU rallied from an early one-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control. Dearth Parker walked to begin the inning. Nathan Bryan drew a one-out walk and Scott Dalrymple followed with his first homer of the season, a shot to left field giving OCU a 3-1 advantage.
The Stars added three more runs in the fifth inning. Presley had the big hit in the inning with a three-run inside-the-park home run to right-center. Presley finished the day 3-for-6 with five RBIs.
Zac Tidholm, a junior from Mustang, Okla., turned in a solid outing, allowing two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings to pick up his first victory of the season. Cody Crabaugh, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., came in and recorded the save with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
OCU will begin Sooner Athletic Conference play by hosting Mid-America Christian for a nine-inning game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
