OCU sneaks by SWOSU 2-1 in overtime

Sarah Leonard scored in the seventh minute of overtime to give OCU a 2-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Sarah Leonard scored in the early moments of the first overtime to lift Oklahoma City University past Southwestern Oklahoma State 2-1 Friday afternoon. 
Leonard, a senior from West Yorkshire, England, scored both goals for OCU (2-2) to give her a team-leading six goals on the season.

The Stars fell behind 1-0 when Stephanie Kneedler scored in the 11th minute for SWOSU.

OCU tied the score at one each in the 52nd minute when Leonard lobbed a shot over the goalies head and into the back of the net. Stephanie Peña picked up the assist on the play.

Leonard ended the game in the seventh minute of overtime with a goal from 10 yards out. Peña posted her second assist of the game to help OCU to victory.

The Stars were outshot in the game 16-10.

Brittany Tibbs was strong in goal for OCU with six saves.

OCU will return to action next weekend at the Mobile Classic in Mobile, Ala. The Stars will play the host school Mobile (Ala.) at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 and William Carey (Miss.) at 5 p.m. Sept. 26.
