OCU gets second seed in NAIA World Series

LEWISTON, Idaho – Oklahoma City University will be the second seed, have a first-day bye and will play at 9 p.m. Oklahoma time on Saturday, May 23 in the NAIA World Series at Harris Field.

The Stars (51-7) advanced to the World Series for the 11th time in program history. OCU finished third in last year's Series and captured the national championship in 2005.

OCU secured its berth with a 6-5 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium in the NAIA Championship Opening-Round Field 2 Tournament title game.

The Stars have already set a team single-season NAIA home run record with 158 hit. OCU surpassed its total of 147 last year.

Sooner Athletic Conference player of the year Brent Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., spearheads OCU with a .436 average, 37 homers and 86 RBIs. Ashur Tolliver, a junior left-hander from Sherwood, Ark., leads the OCU pitching staff with a 10-1 record and 3.63 earned run average.

Friday's games in the Series will pit Campbellsville (Ky.) vs. Lee (Tenn.) at 10:30 a.m., Berry (Ga.) vs. Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) at 2 p.m., Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) vs. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 5 p.m. and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) vs. Fresno Pacific (Calif.) at 9:30 p.m. All times are Oklahoma time.
