SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University hung on for a 10-9 victory as Brad Riddle struck out Sean Iago to snuff out an Oklahoma Baptist rally Friday at Bison Field at Ford Park.
Riddle, a junior right-hander from Bethany, Okla., notched his fifth save of the year. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 35-3, 14-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Oklahoma Baptist dropped to 27-13, 7-12.
Oklahoma Baptist scored four ninth-inning runs as Chad Dawkins and Josh Kirkpatrick each hit two-run home runs.
OCU plated three runs in the seventh as Jason Machado drove in a run with a base hit to center field. Landon Camp scored what proved to be the winning run by hammering a two-run homer to left-center.
David Mann brought in a run in the sixth with a groundout, and Chad Carman had an RBI single in the sixth.
Sammy Lee scored on an error in the fifth. Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., led off the game with a homer to left.
Lee's shot sparked a four-run OCU first. Machado had a run-scoring base hit, and Camp nailed a two-run double.
Camp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, and Machado, a senior from Frisco, Texas, went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Lee went 2-for-5.
Ashur Tolliver, a junior left-hander from Sherwood, Ark., earned the win by working 6.2 innings and striking out six. Tolliver improved to 6-1. OCU's Dustin Williams fanned Victor Manzano with two runners on to halt an Oklahoma Baptist seventh-inning uprising.
OCU meets Oklahoma Baptist at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader at Jim Wade Stadium.
