OCU blitzes Bellevue 18-8

Landon Camp homered twice Sunday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off 15th-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) 18-8 on the strength of a 12-run first inning Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Stars, ranked second in NAIA baseball, moved to 45-7. Landon Camp and Sammy Lee each mashed a pair of home runs, while Brent Weaver and B.J. Wheeler also homered.

In the first, Wheeler had an RBI base hit, and Camp got hit by pitch with the bases full. The Stars scored three times off an error and three more times on Lee's first homer. Weaver added a two-run shot to left for his 32nd homer of the year. Camp went yard with a man on to close out the scoring in the first.

Steve Vitale drove in a run with a second-inning single, and Weaver added a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Lee put together his second multihomer game of the year with a solo blast in the fourth.

Wheeler and Camp hit back-to-back homers, then Vitale drew a bases-loaded walk to finish the game.

Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, and Camp went 2-for-3  and scored twice and drove in four runs. Weaver was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Wheeler went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Vitale was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Michael Bryant picked up the victory to move to 4-1. He threw 3.1 innings and struck out three.

The Stars begin their final regular-season series of the year against Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Bethany, Okla.
