OCU routs Oklahoma Wesleyan 14-4, 11-1

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University battered Oklahoma Wesleyan for 30 hits in 14-4, 11-1 wins on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.

Brent Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., pounded his 26th home run of the year, putting him one shy of OCU's single-season record. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 40-5.

In the first game, OCU erased a 4-2 third-inning deficit with a five-run third. B.J. Wheeler drove in a run with a base hit, then Brandon Moss had an RBI single to tie the game at four runs.

Jason Machado cranked an RBI double to left field for the go-ahead run, then David Grellner reached home on a passed ball. Machado scored on an error.

The Stars added six runs in the fourth. Wheeler drove in two runs on a double, then Moss nailed a two-run homer to left. Landon Camp brought in two runs on a triple to right.

Steve Vitale homered to right leading off the fifth to end the game. Vitale, a junior from East Meadow, N.Y., went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Wheeler, a senior from Abilene, Texas, went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Moss, a senior from Norman, Okla., was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Camp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. David Mann went 2-for-2.

Justin Harper improved to 8-2 by pitching 4.1 innings. Harper, a junior from Phoenix, struck out three. Tristan Bugenis got the final two outs.

In the second game, OCU scored the first four runs of the game. Kirk Walker had an RBI triple, and Chad Carman had a sacrifice fly in the second.

In the third, Weaver hammered a two-run blast over the left-field wall.

In the fourth, Walker hit an RBI single, then Carman had an RBI double. Weaver added a run-scoring single.

Brian Fisher drove in a run with a base hit, then OCU scored on the same play on an error. Grellner nailed a solo shot over the left-field wall, then Camp ended the game on an RBI double.

Weaver went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Mann was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Walker was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Carman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Michael Bryant went to 3-1 by working four innings and striking out four. Bryant, a senior from Sperry, Okla., allowed one run on four hits.

The Stars face Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
