OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled past Rogers State 5-4, 12-1 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU knocked out eight home runs in the two games against Rogers State. The Stars, ranked first in NAIA baseball, improved to 21-1, 6-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, Brent Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., went 2-for-3, driving in two runs. Weaver smacked one out of the park in the fifth inning, scoring two runs and tying the game.
Landon Camp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., and Jason Machado, a senior from Frisco, Texas, both went 1-for-3 with one RBI each. Camp and Machado hit back-to-back home runs to left field in the fourth inning.
The Stars took the lead in the sixth with a double from Brandon Moss, a senior from Norman, Okla. Moss' hit scored David Mann, who was walked earlier in the inning.
Zac Coplon picked up the victory. Garrett Parker, a junior from Duncanville, Texas, threw five innings for the Stars. Parker gave up six hits and four runs.
OCU ended the second game in six innings with a 10-run lead.
In the second game, Steve Vitale, a junior from East Meadow, N.Y., went 2-for-4 with four RBIs for the Stars. Vitale knocked one out of the park in the second inning, scoring three runs.
B.J. Wheeler, a senior from Abilene, Texas, and Kirk Walker, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., both homered in the second inning as well. Wheeler went 4-for-4, batting in two runs.
In the fourth inning, Vitale and Weaver hit back-to-back home runs. Vitale hit his second home run of the game to right-center field, and Weaver knocked out his 14th home run of the year out to left field.
Machado ended the game in the sixth inning with a home run to left-center field giving the Stars an 11-run lead. Machado went 1-for-3, knocking in three runs for the Stars.
Justin Harper, a junior from Phoenix, threw six innings for the Stars, recording the win. Harper improved to 5-0 on the season. Harper booked eight strikeouts while giving up three hits and one run to Rogers State.
The Stars will face Calumet (Ind.) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader at Jim Wade Stadium.
