OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University routed Bacone 17-4 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 34-3. OCU rolled up 10 runs in the first inning.
Brandon Moss started the OCU onslaught with a two-run base hit. Jason Machado added a two-run double, and Ashur Tolliver drove in two more with a single. Steve Vitale nailed a three-run home run to right field, and Moss capped the 10-run inning with an RBI double to right-center.
The Stars chased Bacone starting pitcher Rick Sample after two thirds of an inning. Sample was charged with nine runs.
Vitale, a junior from East Meadow, N.Y., went 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in five runs. Brent Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Weaver pounded his 22nd homer of the year, a two-run shot in the third.
Moss, a senior from Norman, Okla., went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Tolliver, a junior from Sherwood, Ark., was 2-for-4 with three runs driven in. Sammy Lee scored three runs.
Ryan Lindgren improved to 2-0 on the year by throwing four innings. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four. Brad Riddle, Zac Coplon and Michael Bryant each pitched an inning after Lindgren.
OCU also tallied five runs in the fourth. Landon Camp drove in a run with a single to right, then Tolliver brought in a run on a base hit. Vitale added two more runs on a double to right. Weaver had a sacrifice fly in the inning.
The Stars resume Sooner Athletic Conference play against Oklahoma Baptist at 6 p.m. Friday in Shawnee, Okla.
