OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's 12-run inning highlighted a 14-1, 3-1 sweep of Northwood (Texas) on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU tallied 12 runs in the third inning of the first game. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 30-3.
Jason Machado pounded a three-run home run to spark OCU's 12-run frame. Sammy Lee added a two-run homer, and Brandon Moss had an RBI base hit.
Kirk Walker was hit by pitch with the bases full, then Landon Camp drew a bases-loaded walk. Ashur Tolliver had a two-run single, and an error scored two more runs.
Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored after also having an RBI single in the second. Machado, a senior from Frisco, Texas, went 2-for-3, drove in three runs and scored three times. Moss, a senior from Norman, Okla., went 2-for-3, and Steve Vitale went 2-for-3.
David Odquist, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., allowed an unearned run in four innings on three hits and two walks. Odquist (5-0) struck out eight and worked out of a bases-loaded jam by notching two strikeouts in the third. Michael Bryant finished up with a 1-2-3 inning.
In the second game, Machado went yard again with a two-run blast to center field. Machado had a sacrifice fly in the third.
Brent Weaver, Vitale and Machado each went 1-for-2 for the Stars.
Tristan Bugenis picked up the victory, his second of the year. Bugenis, a senior from Arlington, Texas, threw a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
Brad Riddle pitched two innings for his fourth save of the year. Riddle, a junior from Bethany, Okla., worked out of a jam in the sixth by getting a 4-6-3 double play to extinguish a two-runners-on, one-out situation.
The Stars face St. Gregory's at 4 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
