LCU takes over SAC lead with 3-1, 4-1 sweep of OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lubbock Christian (Texas) swept a doubleheader from Oklahoma City University 3-1, 4-1 on Friday night at Jim Wade Stadium.

Lubbock Christian, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, took the Sooner Athletic Conference lead with a 26-2 record, 10-1 in the league. Top-ranked OCU went to 27-3, 9-2 with the third game of the series to come 1 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.

In the first game, LCU's Jakob Cunningham got B.J. Wheeler to hit a grounder to force a runner at second base to end the game. The Stars had loaded the bases for Wheeler in the bottom of the seventh. Cunningham picked up his third save of the year.

OCU's Ashur Tolliver and Lubbock Christian's R.L. Eisenbach were in a pitcher's duel through five innings before Lubbock Christian struck for two runs in the sixth. Will Stramp drove in one run with a double, and Tyler Johnson had an RBI groundout.

Steve Vitale nailed a home run to left for the Stars in the bottom of the sixth, but Lubbock Christian scored again in the game on a passed ball.

Eisenbach went to 5-1, while Tolliver fell to 6-1.

In the nightcap, OCU managed to score only once on Vitale's base hit in the sixth.

Lubbock Christian built a 4-0 lead after three innings. Lubbock Christian plated three runs in the second using Tanner Rindels' RBI double, an error and Jaime Armendariz's run-scoring base hit. Ross Blondin added a homer in the third.

Rene Garcia limited OCU to one run on three hits, striking out five in seven innings. Garcia moved to 4-0, while Justin Harper went to 6-1 despite striking out 11 in seven innings. Harper kept Lubbock Christian to four hits.
