OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's baseball team defeated Friends (Kan.) 20-9 and Hastings (Neb.) 13-0 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, moved to 26-1. B.J. Wheeler and Jason Machado both hit grand slams for OCU against Friends.
Wheeler, a senior from Abilene, Texas, went 3-for-4 with seven RBIs. Machado, a senior from Frisco, Texas, went 1-for-4 at bat knocking in five runs for the Stars.
The Stars were down by three going into the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fourth OCU recorded seven runs. Sammy Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., went 2-for-3, knocking in two runs in the fourth inning with a single. Landon Camp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Tristan Bugenis, a senior from Arlington, Texas, recorded the win throwing 2.1 innings for the Stars. Bugenis threw three strikeouts giving up five hits and two runs and is now 1-0 on the season.
Against Hastings, Ryan Lindgren, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., recorded the win for the Stars in his season debut. Lindgren threw four innings with four strikeouts and giving up three hits.
Brandon Moss, a senior from Norman, Okla., hit two homers in the matchup, while Brent Weaver, David Mann and Lee all knocked one out of the park for the Stars.
Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., went 2-for-3 and hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. In the third inning, Moss and Mann hit back-to-back home runs to give the Stars a 7-0 lead.
Lee, a senior from Ninnekah, Okla., smacked one out in the bottom of the fourth, while Moss hit his second of the game, scoring Steve Vitale. Moss went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
OCU takes on fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
