OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University smacked four home runs in a 9-1 victory over Mid-America Christian on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Landon Camp, Jason Machado and B.J. Wheeler went deep for OCU. The Stars, ranked second in the NAIA by Collegiate Baseball, moved to 10-0, 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars swept Mid-America in the three-game series, OCU's first SAC series of the year.
Wheeler, a senior from Abilene, Texas, pounded two homers. Wheeler knocked a solo blast in the fourth inning and a two-run drive in the sixth, both over the left-field fence. Machado went yard to left, while Camp nailed a two-run shot to right-center in the second.
Camp went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Wheeler was 2-for-3 with three runs driven in. Brent Weaver went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the sixth. Kirk Walker had a run-scoring base hit in the eighth.
Justin Harper improved to 3-0 with 5.2 shutout innings of work. Harper, a junior right-hander from Phoenix, struck out nine. Harper rang up two strikeouts to get out of a fifth-inning bases-loaded jam. Brad Riddle struck out three in two innings of scoreless relief.
The Stars set the NAIA single-season record with 147 homers last year.
OCU faces Briar Cliff (Iowa) at 5 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
