OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University defeated Mid-America Christian 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU (9-0, 2-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) is ranked second in the NAIA according to Collegiate Baseball.
The Stars went up 3-0 in the fourth inning. Steve Vitale, a junior from East Meadow, N.Y., homered to right field. Jason Machado singled with a hit up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error by Mid-America.
David Mann reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop, advancing Machado to third. Machado scored by stealing home, and Mann scored on an error by Mid-America Christian.
Brent Weaver, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., homered to left field in the sixth inning, giving him nine home runs in nine games. Mann tripled in the sixth and scored on an error from MACU.
Vitale and Weaver both went 2-for-4 and both recorded an RBI. Kirk Walker, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., went 2-for-4 as well.
On the mound Garrett Parker notched the win for the Stars. Parker, a junior from Duncanville, Texas, pitched eight innings, giving up two hits. Parker threw 86 pitches with 64 strikes, registering nine strikeouts.
The Stars will face Mid-America Christian on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Jim Wade Stadium.
