COLUMBIA, Mo.- Oklahoma City won the American Midwest Conference Competitive Cheer Championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament on Friday.

After leading after the preliminary round with a 93.75, the Stars were even better in the finals, registering a 95.94.

Defending AMC and NAIA Champion St. Ambrose was second in the finals.

"What an exciting day for our program," said OCU Head Coach
Alicia Bailey. "We knew this conference championship was going to be tough. The top three teams in our conference have the top three regular season averages in the country. The team showed a lot of grit through practice this week and it paid off today. I'm really impressed with the fight they showed on the mat today. This has been a really challenging season and we have overcome a lot of obstacles to get here. I'm so proud of them for their two great performances."

OCU also carried off an armload of individual awards.
Matthew Carmen was judged Cheerleader of the Year,
Rowdy Tucker earned Tumbler of the Year and
Lexi Morgan was named Stunter of the Year.

Scotlyn Banfield, Carmen,
Cali-Kae Peters and Tucker were named First-Team All-Conference.
Â
Brenden Harris,
Teagen Lindgren and
Tanner Wood were named Second-Team All-AMC.
Â
Katherine England,
Tanner Sisco, Banfield and Ellie Enright earned first-team Stunt Group honors.

Bailey Harris,
Brenden Harris, England,
Khloe Bishop and Banfield were named Academic All-Conference. Lindgren was named OCU Champion of Character.
