Stars Win Twice on Friday at NWCA

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Sixth-ranked Oklahoma City went 2-1 on the first day of the NWCA National Duals Championship, sandwiching a lost to No. 2 Life in between wins over No. 14 Central Methodist and No. 7 Campbellsville.

Four OCU wrestlers went 3-0 on the day but the biggest crowd draw may have been the Stars' new heavyweight, 42-year-old jiu jitsu master Rafael Lovato.

Lovato opened with a 9-6 decision over Garine Gibson of Central Methodist. Down 6-5 midway through the final period, Gibson allowed an escape to even the match at 6-6. But with the clock growing short, Lovato went low and produced a takedown for the three-point win. Fourth-ranked Gabriel Jacobs of Life defeated Lovato in the second round by decision, 20-13, but Lovato came back for a major decision against Ethan Heady of Campbellsville, 11-2.

Vincent Citrano, Kaden Fetterolf, John Wiley and Tate Picklo went through the first three matches unscathed.

Unranked Citrano won his first two matches by technical fall before scoring a major decision over fourth-ranked Izaeah Beavers, 11-3, in the 133-pound class.

Fetterolf, ranked fourth at 149 pounds, got a major decision against No. 19 Alex Walkerof CMU, and two decisions. The last of those two came against fifth-ranked Nicholas Yancey, 5-2

Third-ranked Wiley pinned two of his three opponents in the 157pound class, including fourth-ranked Antwaun Burns of Campbellsville in 2:36.

Top-ranked in the 174 class, Picklo took down three ranked opponents. He pinned fourth-ranked Roman Garcia in 92 seconds. He decisioned seventh-ranked Konlin Weaver of Life and scored a major decision against No. 10 Shadrick Slone.

No. 18 Cole Olguin decisioned CMU's Eric Hodge, who was ranked 12th. Cash Donnell and Bryce Milster also had victories on Friday.
