SALINA, Kan. – Oklahoma City opened the competitive cheer season, overcoming adversity to claim a victory in the Coyote Classic on Friday.
Â
The Stars scored 91.15 and won the event by more than 13 points over McPherson and five other teams.
Â
An unexpected illness forced OCU to replace one of the guys with a girl, according to OCU Head Coach
Alicia Bailey. The team modified some skills and made adjustments to every section of the routine.
Â
"It was a solid start to the season," Bailey said." The team stepped up today, overcame some big challenges, and delivered when they needed to. I'm very happy with the performance we put on the floor. Today showed me a little bit of how this group is going to handle pressure this season and I'm excited to build off this and keep getting better."
Â
The Stars compete next weekend in the Threshers Invitational.
