This Week in OCU Women's Soccer

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City resumes Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer this week with two contests: a home match against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Monday and a trip to Bethany to play Southwestern Christian on Saturday. 

The Stars play at 1 p.m. on both days. 

OCU Notebook 

The Streak: The Stars are unbeaten through nine games, going 7-0-2. It is the first time OCU has been unbeaten through nine games since 1999. 

Trends: Over the last three games, OCU is averaging 5.67 goals and allowing 0.67. Yami Ponce has four goals and Tatum Tallal has three in the last three games. 

Fruitless Corners: OCU has been able to limit teams to 25 corner kicks through nine games. Not of those 25 have directly resulted in a goal. 

Hat Tricks: The Stars have produced a pair of hat tricks this season with Tatum Tallal getting one on Tuesday with three goals against Hesston. Amelia Horsford had a three-goal day in the win over Sterling. 

Brace for Impact: Six Stars have recorded a brace this season, including Amelia Horsford and Yami Ponce, who have done so three times each. Kayleigh Haygood, Tatum Tallal, Chloi Thurman and Saizlee Carlton have one each. 

1-2 Punch: Oklahoma City leads the SAC in scoring at 5.67 goals per game with Amelia Horsford leading the conference with 10. Yami Ponce is second in the SAC with nine. 

Goal Depth: Ryann Brooks became the 14th Star to record a goal this season when she found the net Tuesday against Hesston. 

Blanco Blanks: Candela Blanco has allowed four goals through nine games for a SAC-leading 0.325 goals allowed average. She has 16 saves and a conference-leading five shutouts. Blanco is second in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a .842 save percentage. 

Marginally Speaking: Oklahoma City leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 51 goals, 5.67 goals per game, 0.44 goals allowed per game and its 5.23 goal differential per game. 

Stingy Defense: The Stars have allowed just 50 shots all season and 21 of those have come in OCU's 1-1 ties against Mid-America Christian and Our Lady of the Lake. in the 1-1 tie. OCU allows 5.6 shots per game. 

Just Trying to Help: Kayleigh Haygood and Saizlee Carlton are first and third, respectively, in the Sooner Athletic Conference with seven and five assists. Eleven Stars have posted 31 assists this season. 

Last Contest: The Stars opened Sooner Athletic Conference action with a 1-1 tie against Mid-Americsa Christian. Kayleigh Haygood scored the equalizer for OCU with 1:08 left in the game. 

Half and Half: Through nine games this season, OCU has only been shut out in three halves – the first halves against Mid-America Christian and Texas A&M-Victoria and the second half against Our Lady of the Lake. The Stars have scored more goals in the second half in all but one game – the tie at OLLU. OCU has 16 first-half goals and 35 second-half goals this season. OCU is averaging just under four goals in the second half. That average is better than that of eight other teams' total scoring average in the SAC. 

History vs. OPSU: The Stars are 6-0 all-time against the Aggies, including a 2-0 win in Goodwell last season. Amelia Horsford had both OCU goals in that game and Chloi Thurman, Saizlee Carlton and Abby Russell had assists. 

History vs. SCU: The Stars are 4-0-1 against Southwestern Christian. The Stars won 3-0 at home last season. Yami Ponce had a goal and an assist and Saizlee Carlton also scored. 

Scouting the Aggies: Oklahoma Panhandle State dropped their league-opener, a 3-1 setback at SCU, and fell to 3-3 on the season. Emma Daskalov leads the team with three goals this season. 

Scouting the Eagles: Southwestern Christian is 1-0 in the league after the 3-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. SCU is 8-0-1 with a trip to Nelson on Tuesday. Abbigail Johnson and Riley Stanfill lead the Eagles with seven goals apiece. They each also have three assists.
