This Week in OCU Women's Soccer

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City gets its final non-conference tune-up in women's soccer on Tuesday when the Stars host Hesston at 3:30 p.m. and then launch Sooner Athletic Conference action at 5 p.m. at home against Mid-America Christian.
 
OCU Notebook
The Streak: The Stars are unbeaten through seven games, going 6-0-1. It is the first time OCU has been unbeaten through seven games since the 2012 season when the Stars won their first eight games en route to a 22-2- season.
 
Peppering Assault: The Stars have taken 108 shots in the last four games and scored 29 goals. More than 27 percent of OCU's shots have found the net in the last four games. For the season, the Stars. The Stars have landed 53.3 percent of their shots on goal and 23 percent of all shots. The Stars lead the SAC in both of those percentages.
 
Goal: Oklahoma City leads the SAC in scoring at 5.57 per game with Amelia Horsford leading the charge with eight followed by Yami Ponce with seven. Horsford leads the SAC with 1.14 goals per game and Ponce is tied for second at 1.00/
 
Magic 13: OCU's 39 goals this season have been scored by 13 different Stars. Amelia Horsford leads in the goal-scoring category with eight. Yami Ponce has seven, while Kayleigh Haygood and Ali Daugherty have four each. Inka Silz and Chloi Thurman have three each and Tatum Tallal and Abby Russell each have two. Saizlee Carlton, Reese Roberts, Wachipi Hamelryck, Aynslee Duffy, Ashley Russell, and Chloi Thurman have one apiece.
 
Blanco Blanks: Candela Blanco has allowed four goals through eight games for a SAC-leading 0.429 goals allowed average. She has 15 saves and a conference-leading four shutouts. Blanco is second in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a .833 save percentage.
 
Marginally Speaking: Oklahoma City leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 39 goals, 5.57 goals per game, 0.43 goals allowed per game and its 5.14 goal differential per game.
 
Stingy Defense: The Stars have allowed just 35 shots all season and 10 of those came in the 1-1 tie. OCU allows five shots per game.
 
Just Trying to Help: Ten Stars have contributed to the team's total of 25 assists this season, led by Kayleigh Haygood and Saizlee Carlton with four each. Amelia Horsford, Reese Roberts and Tatum Tallal have three apiece. Haygood and Carlton are tied for second the Sooner Athletic Conference in assists.
 
Player of the Week: Amelia Horsford is coming off a great game against Sterling in which she scored three goals and added an assist. The seven points in a game is a Sooner Athletic Conference best this season. Horsford converted the three goals on just four shots. For Horsford, who was an All-Conference selection last season, this is her first weekly honor. OCU also received a defensive award earlier this year when Candela Blanco picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors in week two.
 
Schedule Strength: In the last two games, OCU has beaten teams that entered unbeaten and with one loss. For the season, OCU opponents own a 21-21-2 record.
 
Last Contest: The Stars beat previously unbeaten Bellevue on the road, 5-1. Yami Ponce and Chloi Thurman both had two goals each and freshman Ali Daugherty added one.
 
Half and Half: Through seven games this season, OCU has only been shut out in two halves – the first half against Texas A&M-Victoria and the second half against Our Lady of the Lake. The Stars have scored more goals in the second half in all but one game – the tie at OLLU. OCU has 12 first-half goals and 27 second-half goals this season. OCU is averaging just under four goals in the second half. That 3.86 average is better than that of seven teams' total scoring average in the SAC.
 
Nice to Meet You: This will be the first meeting between OCU and Hesston in women's soccer
 
History vs. MACU: The Stars are 0-5-1 in the last six contests against the Evangels. The last win for OCU in the series came in 2018. MACU held the Stars to nine shots for a 1-0 win last season.
 
Scouting Hesston: Hesston is 2-5-1 after a 3-2 loss on Saturday at Southwestern Christian. Their setbacks also include a 2-1 loss at Oklahoma Panhandle State and a 4-2 loss at the hands of Sterling. Rena Itoga leads the team with five goals this season.
