OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars softball team carries its 11-game winning streak into the weekend for a home series against Wayland Baptist on Friday and Saturday.

About the Stars   

  • Oklahoma City enters this weekend series on an 11-game winning streak after securing back-to-back sweeps over Langston and Southwestern Christian after taking three games out of four against USAO who at the time ranked number two in the country. 
  • The OCU offense is led by senior Baileigh Loux who leads the team in batting average, OPS, hits, RBIs, and more while slugging seven home runs so far this season. Loux enters with a four-game hitting streak where she has scored four in consecutive games.
  • Emersen Heron, a junior out of Edmond has been a stellar piece to the Stars not just at the plate but inside the circle too. Heron leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with eight home runs and comes off a series against Langston where she collected a total of seven hits, seven runs scored, nine RBIs, and four home runs. 
  • Inside the circle, Heron holds just a 1.02 ERA while managing to put together an unbeaten 13-0 record. Heron has struck out 56 batters in 82.1 innings pitched.
  • Kaitlyn Jones comes in on fire with a 14-game hitting streak and raising her average to .453 on the season. Jones put together a big outing in the first game of the Langston series going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and tied a career-high four RBIs. 
  • Kamryn Garvie has raised her home run total to seven which ranks second among SAC hitters. Garvie enters with a seven-game hitting streak and has driven in a run in nine of the last 11 games. 
  • Freshman breakout Tara Hoehner enters with a streak of scoring in seven straight games while knocking in a run in five consecutive. In the third game against Langston, Hoehner strung together a 3-for-3 game with three RBIs and four runs scored behind a two-run homer, her sixth of the year. 
  • Catcher Amy Crabaugh has picked up play in the last couple of weeks and has been a key piece to the Stars offense Crabaugh comes in on a 10-game hitting streak while scoring in four straight games and has driven in a run in four of the last five.
  • Among SAC leaders, the Stars hold down the top four in runs batted with Baileigh Loux leading the way followed by Emersen Heron, Kamryn Garvie, and Tara Hoehner
  • Senior Shelbey Cornelson has been cruising along in 2024 putting together a 1.48 ERA with a 12-2 record inside the circle. Cornelson comes off 10 strikeout games against Langston, her second-highest amount this season. The right-hander comes off three straight shutouts while allowing no more than three hits in her last four outings.  
  • Oklahoma City ranks first in multiple categories in the SAC including, batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, and ERA. 
  • The Stars will look to defend its home field as OCU carries a 14-0 home record into the weekend.

About the Pioneers

  • Wayland Baptist holds down a 16-18 record while going 12-8 in conference play thus far. The Pioneers come off back-to-back wins against Central Christian after dropping the first two games of the series to split with the Tigers.
  • Throughout SAC play, Wayland Baptist earned the series sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State, took three out of four from Langston and Texas Wesleyan, and was swept by Science & Arts. 
  • Reagan Davis leads the way with a .343 average and ties Mikayla Carrillo for the team lead in hits with 34. From Mar. 13-23 Davis strung together a 10-game hitting streak which included five straight games with multiple base hits and combined for 14 hits in the four-game series against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
  • Freshman Jadyn Fernandez has put together five straight games with a hit including three straight with a run scored and an RBI in five of the last seven games. 
  • Berkley Bradley enters second on the team with six doubles and added her first triple of the year against Central Christian on Mar. 29 to go along with a three RBI game. 
  • Arianna Zubia is the Pioneer leader with four triples which included two of them against Central Christian in the same guy after going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. 
  • Mikayla Carrillo rounds out the Wayland .300 hitters as the freshman ties Davis with a team lead of 34 hits and is first on the team with 11 doubles which ranks third in the Sooner Athletic Conference. 
  • Addy Rich has been the workhorse arm for the Pioneers in 2024 with a 3.63 ERA in 86.2 innings pitched while putting together a 7-4 record inside the circle. 
  • Despite a 7.04 ERA, Amber Poorbaugh leads Wayland Baptist with 36 strikeouts in 62.2 innings pitched. Poorbaugh did not pitch against Central Christian, her last outing came on Mar. 22 against OPSU where she tossed a complete game and earned the win while striking out a season-high 10 batters. 
  • Wayland Baptist ranks fifth in the SAC in team average however the power has lacked for the Pioneers as they have yet to hit a home run this season.

  • Oklahoma City will head to the panhandle next weekend to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State Apr. 12-13 in Goodwell.
