OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars softball team opens conference play on Friday with a four-game series against Mid-America Christian on Friday and Saturday

About the Stars   

  • The OCU softball team will pick up play with its second SAC series of the year as the Stars will host Mid-America Christian for a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday.  
  • The Stars were recently ranked number five in Wednesday's NAIA poll. 
  • Oklahoma City comes in 15-1 overall most recently seeing action in four games last weekend in the Red Dirt Classic. OCU went 3-1 in the classic out at Hall of Fame Stadium taking down Harris-Stowe twice and Bethel College while suffering its first loss of the season to newly rated number one Our Lady of the Lake.  
  • Baileigh Loux comes off back-to-back weeks of being selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week as Loux enters with the team's top batting average of .538. The graduate student also leads the squad in hits and RBIs while notching multiple base hits in four of the last five games. 
  • Junior third baseman Rally Radacy has snuck up and secured the second-best batting average on the team at .477. Radacy has been a scoring machine in 2024 as she opened the season by scoring a run in the first eight games and has scored multiple runs in seven games this year and is tied for sixth in the NAIA with 23 total while stealing seven bags, second most on the team.  
  • Freshman Tara Hoehner has been a bright spot for OCU in her rookie campaign by hitting .457 through the 16 games played this season. Hoehner ties Loux and Emersen Heron for the most doubles on the team with seven.  
  • Hoehner has already put together two separate five-game hitting streaks this year and saw a big game against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Feb. 20 by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a double.  
  • Emersen Heron and Iliana Ashford round the .400 plus hitters for OCU as Heron ties for the team lead in doubles and ties Kamryn Garvie for second in RBIs with 17. Heron strung together a big game back on Feb. 24 against Central Christian by going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and five RBIs.  
  • Heron also makes a large impact inside the circle for OCU after totaling 34.1 innings of work while putting together a 5-0 record with a 1.22 ERA. Heron has made four starts in eight appearances and tossed her season-high in strikeouts against the University of Saint Mary with five after going five shutout innings.  
  • Kaitlyn Jones and Kamryn Garvie come together as a strong senior duo as Jones bats .385 with a team-high 10 stolen bases while Garvie leads the squad with four home runs.  
  • Shelbey Cornelson comes in as the team's ace once again after throwing 39.1 innings in 2024. Cornelson enters with a 6-1 record on top of a 1.24 ERA and 49 strikeouts.  
  • Cornelson saw her top performance come in a perfect game against Central Christian on Feb. 23 with nine strikeouts and no walks and comes off her most recent game with a season-high 11 strikeouts against Bethel College.

About the Evangels 

  • MACU enters with a 10-5 record while starting 3-1 in SAC play. The Evangels come of a two-game sweep over Southwestern College taking down the Moundbuilders 8-7 and 23-1. 
  • The Evangels are under new leadership in 2024 after hiring Jim Gasso to take over as head coach back in May.  
  • Just like OCU, Mid-America Christian competed at the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic at the USA Softball Hall of Fame this past weekend. The Evangels opened the event with a dominant 13-3 victory over McPherson (Kan.) before dropping a pair of tough games against two high-quality opponents. The Evangels dropped a 7-1 defeat to NCAA Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff before falling in a close 3-0 loss to No. 7 Our Lady of the Lake. 
  • Morgan Fowble leads the way for MACU on average at .382 and carries a six-game hitting streak into this weekend's series. Fowble comes off a dominant outing in the game two blowout on Wednesday by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored.  
  • Makenzie Thurman has racked up a .355 average in 12 games played this year while coming in second on the team with five doubles and comes off back-to-back games going 2-for-4 at the plate. 
  • Hallie Wilson strung together two big games on Wednesday combining for seven RBIs with two hits in each game as the junior holds a .342 average with a team-leading three triples and ranks second on the team with 15 RBIs.  
  • Brooklyn Wilson leads the Evangels with 16 RBIs and six doubles while holding a .333 average as a starter in all 15 games.  
  • MACU is led by right-hander Rachel Eggleston who has seen 38.1 innings pitched while holding a 1.83 ERA. Eggleston has appeared in back-to-back relief appearances and saw her top game come against SAGU where she tossed all nine innings of play and struck out a season-high eight batters in the extra innings victory over the Lions.  
  • Mid-America Christian opened SAC play Feb. 23-24 at home against SAGU where it took three out of four from the Lions after winning three straight games once it suffered a game one loss.  
  • MACU comes off a blowout win over Southwestern College where it scored 15 runs in the first inning and 23 runs altogether. Kisbel Vizcaya had a game-high four hits in five at-bats while the Evangels strung together seven doubles on 20 hits as the Moundbuilders committed eight errors.  

Series History  

  • Oklahoma City has won six in a row over the Evangels after outscoring MACU 17-2 in last year's four-game set. The Stars lead the all-time series 62-3 dating back to 2008. 

What's Next 

  • OCU will travel to Chickasha and take on #2 USAO in a big Sooner Athletic Conference series Mar. 15-16.
