Stars fall short 81-79 to Langston

Wilson goes off for career-high 33 points

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped an 81-79 decision to Langston on Thursday at the Eagles Nest.

Fiona Wilson provided the Stars with a career-best 33 points. OCU went to 9-10, 6-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball. 
 
Oklahoma City trailed early. Their first field goal came on a Annilia Dawn 3-pointer three minutes into the game. The Stars went on a run to take a 25-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lions fought back in the second to narrow the lead to three with just under two minutes remaining. OCU got back out to a three-point lead to end the half 39-36. Langston took the lead back 58-56 with 34 second left in the third. Amiya Howard beat the buzzer on a 3-pointer to tie it back up at 61.
 
Langston took back the lead off free throws and a tip-in with 1:47 left. After a few fouls and turnovers, OCU got within two on more free throws by Wilson. The Stars had a last second chance to tie or win, but Ray Osborn failed to get the layup to fall, and the clock ran out on the ensuing scramble for the loose ball.
 
Along with Wilson's 33 points, the senior psychology major from Greenland, Ark., had a double-double with 12 rebounds. Cacie Gorman was the other Star in double figure scoring, Gorman, a junior psychology major from Watonga, Okla., had 10 points. Annilia Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas had nine points, and Elaine Witt, a sophomore nursing major from Dale, Okla., supplied six points and seven assists. Amaya Gordon and Osborn had eight apiece.
 
OCU outscored Langston 46-31 in the paint but succumbed eight points off missed free throws which proved crucial. OCU shot 35.7 percent from deep. Langston shot 37 percent but made twice as many as OCU did. The Stars outshot the Lions from the field 49 percent to 38 percent.

 "Inside the SAC this is our fifth loss under six points," Oklahoma City coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "This squad has been challenged and continues to be resilient and fiercely compete."

OCU travels to McPherson, Kan., to take on Central Christian (Kan.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
