OKLAHOMA CITY – Each year, Oklahoma City University's athletics teams get involved in the greater Oklahoma City community. Every team gets involved in
Community Service Projects.
Â
Oklahoma City women's basketball was eager to lend its support in multiple ways in a "shared commitment to giving back, building meaningful relationships and using our platform beyond the court," said OCU Head Coach
Alexis Lawrence.
Â
At Community Advance, the team supported "The Club," an after-school program at Taft Middle School serving sixth- and eighth-grade students. OCU assisted with classes, built connections through mentorship and participated in activities designed to help students stay on track academically.
Â
The team also partnered with OKC Connect at the Urban Mission Food Pantry, where they helped prepare and distribute groceries to families in need. Their role focused on cart preparation—organizing bulk food items for efficient distribution during service. The Urban Mission now serves approximately 20,000 individuals each year across the Oklahoma City metro area.
Â
In addition, OCU volunteered with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, a shopper-choice pantry that allows individuals to select their own groceries. There, they sorted, packed, and prepared food and provided one-on-one shopping support for various programs supporting children, families, and seniors.
Â
"Through these service opportunities, our team was able to make a meaningful impact while building connections within the community," said Lawrence.
