SAC softball tournament starts Friday

Rainy weather pushes tournament back one day

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament has been postponed due to weather concerns within the area. 

The SAC Tournament will start Friday at both Ann Lacy Stadium in Oklahoma City and Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla., with first pitch for the tournament opener at 2 p.m. There will be four games Friday. Oklahoma City University meets Central Christian (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Games Saturday will be 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with an if-necessary game 5 p.m. The championship will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium. 

The tournament features two teams ranked in the NAIA's top five – second-ranked Oklahoma City University and fifth-ranked Science & Arts. 

The Stars (42-5) have produced a .379 team batting average to rank third among the NAIA this season. OCU ranks fourth in stolen bases (172) and triples (27), fifth in runs scored (359) and sixth in hits (496) nationally this year. Kennedy Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., triggers Oklahoma City's offense from her leadoff spot and stands as OCU's career leader in stolen bases with 196. Phil McSpadden has led OCU to a 1,831-390 record in his 34th year as head coach. McSpadden tops college softball with the most victories against four-year competition all-time. 

The Drovers (44-7) top the NAIA with 24 shutouts and a .142 batting average against while ranking third in steals (183) and fourth in earned run average (1.23). Emily Cerny, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., spearheads Science & Arts with 135 career wins, which is the all-time NAIA record.
