OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University snared the top seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament opening 2:30 p.m. Friday at OCU's Jim Wade Stadium and Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
The Stars (43-4) meet eighth seed Panhandle State (14-34) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Oklahoma City. No. 4 seed Texas Wesleyan (33-17) faces Mid-America Christian (28-18) at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The tournament is divided into two double-elimination brackets. Second seed Science & Arts (32-12), No. 3 Southwestern Assemblies of God (33-12), sixth seed Wayland Baptist (27-21) and No. 7 seed Southwestern Christian (26-23) comprise the bracket in Chickasha, Okla. The teams that take each bracket will tangle for the SAC Tournament crown 1 p.m. Monday, May 9 at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU enters the postseason ranked fourth, while Science & Arts owns the No. 10 spot in the NAIA rankings. The Drovers rallied for a 4-3 win over Oklahoma City on May 10, 2021 in Chickasha, Okla., on Jack Womack's eighth-inning RBI double. Science & Arts has taken the last three SAC Tournament titles.
Cross Factor tops the NAIA in batting average (.522) while ranking second nationally with 25 home runs this year. Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., joined exclusive company as the eighth OCU player with 25 homers in a season. He has the most homers hit by a Star since Miguel Beltran hammered 27 in 2012.
