Stars Return To Winning Ways With Doubleheader Sweep Over Panhandle State

GOODWELL, Okla. - No. 4 ranked Oklahoma City University swept Oklahoma Panhandle State in Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader action on Friday at OPSU's Carroll Gribble Field.  OCU cruised to a 16-0 win in the opener before prevailing 3-1 in game two.

The Stars scored early and often in the opener, leading 5-0 after three innings and 10-0 after five innings. Senior designated hitter Cade Stephens finished with six RBIs and senior outfielder Peyton Crispin recorded three RBIs in the route.

The Stars finished with 17 hits with 12 players contributing to that total. Senior third baseman Darian Luper finished with a team-high three hits.

Junior Eli Davis improved to 9-0 on the season after allowing just three hits, all singles, with 10 strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work. Davis now has the third-lowest ERA in NAIA at 1.04.

OCU (42-4, 21-2 SAC) scored all three runs in game two in the top of the first inning. Those runs were scored on a two-run home run by Luper and a RBI single by senior first baseman Frederic Walter.

The Stars would get only two runners in scoring position the rest of the game (both times on doubles by Crispin) but a complete game gem by senior Tanner Schoeninger allowed OCU to secure the win. Schoeninger improved to 10-0 on the season after allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in the seven-inning contest.

OCU and OPSU will close out the regular season on Saturday with a single nine-inning game. First pitch in that contest is scheduled for 12 p.m.
