OCU's showdown with Science & Arts pushed to Sunday

Sixth-ranked Stars collide with No. 12 Science & Arts at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's baseball game against Science & Arts featuring a showdown of top 25-ranked teams in the NAIA originally set for Thursday has been postponed to 2 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium. 

Thunderstorms have been predicted for the area Thursday evening with an up to 80 chance for rain forecast. 

The three-game series includes a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday with sixth-ranked OCU visiting No. 12 Science & Arts in Chickasha, Okla. This Sooner Athletic Conference set pits the two teams which have won each league regular-season title and SAC Tournament crown since 2015.  

The Stars (21-1, 6-0 SAC) have reeled off a 16-game winning streak for one of the longest winning strings in the nation. OCU owns its best start to a season since opening the 2009 campaign 26-1. 

This season, Oklahoma City ranks among the top 10 in team doubles (67, second), slugging percentage (.634, third), batting average (.354, fifth), home runs (37, seventh) and extra-base hits (111, seventh) in the NAIA. OCU's Cross Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., rates third nationally with a .527 batting average and 1.135 slugging percentage as well as fourth in the NAIA with 11 homers.  

Science & Arts (15-5, 5-1 SAC) has compiled a .232 batting average against to rate 20th in the country. Drew Shaver has paced the Drovers pitching staff with a 4-1 mark, 2.56 earned run average and 39 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched this year. 

Oklahoma City captured the 2005 national championship among 16 NAIA World Series appearances. OCU owns the most victories in college baseball since 1991 with 1,486.
