NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University grabbed second place in the Bethel Thresher Invitational on Saturday at the Thresher Gym. 

Oklahoma City, the defending NAIA competitive cheerleading champion, put together an 89.36 score. 

The Stars took the floor two times Saturday. The top score from each team was counted in the event's standings. OCU scored an 85.43 in its earlier performance. St. Ambrose (Iowa) took the top spot with a 90.76. Hastings (Neb.) came in third with a 76.68. 

"Today was a good start to the season," OCU coach Alicia Bailey said. "We knew it would be a tough competition considering all the setbacks we have had with COVID and the snowstorm. The team fought hard today and made some good progress toward our goals. We know we have some work to do over the next couple of weeks and are ready to get back to work."  

OCU next competes in the York Invitational at 5 p.m. Feb. 11 in York, Neb.
