Stars Sweep Central Baptist (Ark.) To Improve To 13-1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Oklahoma City University improved to 13-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep over Central Baptist on Monday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field, home of the NCAA Division I Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans.
 
The NAIA No. 20 ranked Stars cruised to a 10-1 win in the opener before earning a come-from-behind 7-4 win in game two.
 
Senior designated hitter Evan Maun provided the Stars with of the offense they would need in the opener with a three-run homer in the top of the third inning. It was his third home run of the season.
 
Maun stretched the lead to 5-0 with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning, with senior first baseman Fred Walter and sophomore shortstop Chad Pike crossing the plate. The Stars would score three more runs in the fifth to build an insurmountable 8-0 lead.
 
OCU out-hit CBC 12-4 with Maun leading the way with three hits and six RBIs. Senior center fielder Cross Factor, senior Peyton Crispin and junior left fielder Jesse Fonteboa finished with two hits apiece.
 
Sophomore Tyler Polk (2-1) earned the win for the Stars. He entered the game in the top of the second inning and allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks in five innings pitched.
 
OCU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning of game two on RBI singles by Walter and Fonteboa. CBC would answer with three runs in the bottom of the frame off of Star starter Jacob Wright.
 
OCU re-took the lead 4-3 in the fourth inning on solo home runs by junior Tristan Williams and sophomore left fielder Felix Chenier-Rondeau.
 
Factor stretched the lead to 5-3 with a solo shot over the fence in the fifth inning and Fonteboa increased the lead to 7-3 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
 
OCU out-hit CBC 13-5 in the win with Factor, senior catcher Cade Stephens, Chenier-Rondeau and Fonteboa recording two hits apiece. Fonteboa finished with three RBIs, marking the third time this season he has reached that lofty mark.
 
Senior Grant Harrison (2-0) earned the win for the Stars. He entered the game with one out and a runner on second base in the bottom of the third inning and allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 3.2 innings pitched.
 
Sophomore Braden Hill earned his second save of the season for the Stars. He entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and got the first batter he faced to ground out, ended the game.
 
OCU and Central Baptist will conclude the series with a single game tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
