OCU stumbles against Langston 74-55

Dawn leads Stars in scoring

LANGSTON, Okla. – Oklahoma City University was tripped up by Langston 74-55 on Thursday night at C. Felton Gayles Field House.

Annilia Dawn provided OCU with 12 points. The Stars' record fell to 2-5, 0-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball.

OCU got off to a solid start in the first half only trailing by four at the end of the first and second periods. The Stars tied it up at 29 with a little over two minutes left in the first half on one of two Kelsi Fitzgerald 3-pointers. That would be the last tie in the game. OCU's only lead came early in the first after a Dawn jump shot made it 6-4.

The third quarter is where the Lions started to control the pace of the game. They got out to an early 45-37 lead with six minutes left and didn't look back as the Stars stayed at 37 for the remainder of the quarter. LU outscored OCU 19-5 in the third.

The Stars were led by Dawn and Fiona Wilson. Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, spearheaded the Stars with 12 points and three assists. Wilson, a senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., provided 11 points and five rebounds. Amaya Gordon, a junior criminal justice/psychology major from Ardmore, Okla., also contributed with nine points and six rebounds, and a block.

"I thought we did a solid job containing penetration defensively, but the second chances we gave up hurt us, alongside the inability to score in the third," OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said.

OCU hits the court again on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Central Christian (Kan.) at Abe Lemons Arena.
