OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University demolished Central Christian (Kan.) 92-50 on Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
Annilia Dawn led Oklahoma City with 17 points. In total, the Stars had five players in double figures. The Stars improved to 3-5, 1-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball.
OCU never trailed in the game after a hot start. The Stars got out to a 15-3 lead thanks to a few 3-pointers and quickly brought the lead to 25-9 off a Ray Osborn jump shot. The Stars ended the first period with a 27-12 lead. The second period was much like the first. Dawns' 3 with 5:30 left brought the score to 42-15. At the half, the Stars led 47-25.
The Stars hit 41 percent from deep and 49 percent from the field. OCU shot 70.6 percent from the field in the first quarter. For the game, Central Christian hit just 24 percent from the field. The Stars out rebounded the Tigers by a wide margin of 50-28. Along with its 13 3-pointers, OCU had 38 points in the paint on their way to victory.
"I am extremely proud of our players," OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "I thought we were tough defensively and extremely fluent on the scoring end with 26 assists on 37 made shots. Now we build off our first SAC win."
Every player that saw the floor contributed for OCU. Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, snagged six rebounds. Osborn, a junior psychology major from Sapulpa, Okla., added 15 points and five rebounds, shooting 7-for-13 from the field.
Fiona Wilson, a senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., supplied 14 points, three assists, and four rebounds. Amiya Howard, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., totaled 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Cacie Gorman, a junior psychology major from Watonga, Okla., added 10 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots for the Stars.
OCU plays next against John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
