Mato of Stars lands SAC runner of week

Senior from Duadaso, Ghana, captures second weekly SAC award in three weeks

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lydia Mato from Oklahoma City University collected the Sooner Athletic Conference women's cross country runner of the week for the second time this year.
Mato, a senior from Duadaso, Ghana, captured the honor after her performance in the 30th annual Chile Pepper Festival hosted by Arkansas on Saturday at Agri Park.
Mato supplied the Stars with an 11th-place finish among the 425-runner field in Fayetteville, Ark. She clocked a time of 17 minutes, 34.30 seconds in the 5,000-meter race. Mato recorded a time of 5:40.2 and stood in ninth place after the first mile. Mato led OCU, ranked seventh in the NAIA, to a 19th-place team finish.
Oklahoma City swept the Sooner Athletic Conference men's and women's cross country runners of the week for the second time this year. Oscar Kipkoros paced the No. 1-ranked Stars during the week of Sept. 17-23.
OCU runs next in the Red River Shootout at 5 p.m. Friday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
