Stars hand Muñoz first win as head coach

OCU cruises past Coastal Georgia to notch first victory of year

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Oklahoma City University handed Jason Muñoz his first career victory as a head coach with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 win over Coastal Georgia on Saturday morning in the Bill Marshall Classic at the Heartland Events Center.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, topped OCU with nine kills. The Stars improved to 1-2 in volleyball this season.
Muñoz took over as OCU coach on Feb. 2 after eight years as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Baptist.
"I was very happy for the girls to leave feeling good," Muñoz said. "We have work to do."

Oklahoma City's Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, accumulated 25 assists, seven digs, three kills and three aces, and Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., chipped in seven kills and three blocks.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., provided the Stars with six kills and 16 digs, while Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., scooped up 14 digs.
In the first set, the Stars erased a 19-18 deficit with three consecutive points. Lacy Beeler nailed a kill to tie the set 19-19, then Randall smacked a kill to give OCU the lead. Lindsey Grace dropped in an ace for a 21-19 OCU edge. Nell hammered a kill to wrap up the set for the Stars.
Randall supplied a kill that gave OCU set point in the second set.
In the third set, Beeler's kill put the Stars on top 10-4. Bjelobrk crushed a kill that capped a 4-0 OCU run and put the Stars ahead 22-11. Randall pounded a kill that gave the Stars match point, 24-14.
Oklahoma City meets Midland (Neb.), ranked fourth in the NAIA, at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 in the Bellevue Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Neb.
