Jason Muñoz

Jason Muñoz has taken over the Oklahoma City University volleyball program as head coach.

Muñoz assumes the Stars’ helm after serving the previous eight years as assistant for Oklahoma Baptist. Muñoz was recognized as the 2012 NAIA assistant coach of the year and among the 30 under 30 coaches by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

In 2016, Oklahoma Baptist wrapped up the season as National Christian College Athletic Association Championship semifinalists with a 23-15 record and a tie for third in the Great American Conference with Muñoz’s help. The Lady Bison concluded the season at No. 7 in the NCCAA national poll. In 2015, Oklahoma Baptist finished as NCCAA runner-up.

Muñoz aided Oklahoma Baptist in going 230-84 the past eight years with four SAC regular-season championships, three SAC Tournament titles, an appearance in the NAIA Championship Opening Round and two trips to the NAIA Championships since 2009. Oklahoma Baptist posted four 30-win seasons and a 53-match winning streak in league play.

Muñoz guided seven NAIA all-Americans, three NCCAA all-Americans, 35 all-conference performers, two SAC player of the year award winners, three SAC setters of the year, one SAC hitter of the year, an SAC libero of the year recipient and a GAC defensive player of the year. In addition, Muñoz coached seven NAIA scholar-athletes and seven CoSIDA academic all-district honorees.

He served as assistant volleyball coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State before joining the staff at Oklahoma Baptist.

Muñoz attended Southwestern Oklahoma State, earning his bachelor of science in parks and recreation management and a master of education degree in sports management in 2007. Muñoz recently completed his master of arts in applied biblical studies from the Moody Bible Institute. He is a 2001 graduate of Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City.
