Stars play for national crown 11 a.m. CDT Thursday

Inclement weather changes NAIA Softball World Series schedule

CLERMONT, Fla. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University will play for its second national championship in a row at 11 a.m. CDT (noon EDT) Thursday in the NAIA Softball World Series at Legends Way Ballfields.
Inclement weather struck the area Wednesday, forcing the rearrangement of the schedule Thursday. Weather came with LSU-Alexandria leading Columbia (Mo.) 5-1 in the fifth inning of the first game scheduled for Wednesday.
Columbia and LSU-Alexandria will resume its contest 8 a.m. CDT. Corban (Ore.) will await the winner between Columbia and LSU-Alexandria with the first pitch set for 9 a.m. CDT. An if-necessary game would follow 20 minutes after the conclusion of the championship game. Games will be broadcast live on the NAIA Stretch portal.
The Stars (67-1) advanced to the national title game with a 2-0 victory over Corban on Tuesday. Oklahoma City seeks its 10th national crown after winning NAIA titles in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2016. OCU reached the national title game for the 15th time in program history after finishing as national runner-up five times.
OCU has a 3-0 record in the World Series and needs one win to capture the national championship. Any team that reaches the national final would need to beat the defending national champion Stars twice to take the crown.
The forecast in Clermont, Fla., calls for a 50 percent chance for rain starting 1 p.m. CDT Thursday.
